Shanghai (TDI): More than 250 Australian companies are participating in this year’s 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, marking a new milestone in bilateral trade relations between Australia and China, as noted by China’s Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, during a meeting on Sunday with Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell.
The strong turnout of Australian businesses reflects their optimism and growing confidence in the Chinese market, as well as the wider economic prospects of China-Australia trade relations, according to Minister Wang.
He reiterated China’s hope for a fair and supportive business environment from Australia, to foster equitable treatment for Chinese companies seeking to engage in the Australian market.

Australia’s delegation, the largest seen at the CIIE to date, signals its recognition of China’s vast market potential and underlines the business community’s commitment to strengthening trade ties.
Wang highlighted that both sides view a stable China-Australia relationship as foundational for continued economic collaboration, and that cooperation should be grounded in mutual benefit and equality.
China-Australia Economic Ties
Since early 2023, the two countries have maintained close engagement on trade and economic issues, seeking to resolve concerns in a mutually beneficial manner.
