Operations at Canadian Embassy Kabul are temporarily suspended

-

Ottawa, 15 August 2021 (TDI): Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau announced a temporary suspension of the Canadian diplomatic operations in Kabul owing to evolving security challenges. The Canadian Embassy personnel have already flown back to Canada for safety purposes.

The decision has been made after consultation with the Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan. The embassy will reopen when the security risks will simmer down. However, the statement said, special immigration measures for the safety of Afghans will continue as a top priority. The Canadian government is working closely with the US in this regard to bring the Afghan people safely to Canada. Canadian citizens in Afghanistan are also instructed to leave the country. Lastly, the statement condemned the ongoing violence and injustices against Afghan citizens, women, and minorities.
