Tehran (TDI): Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a detailed statement on the anniversary of Israel’s blatant aggression and attack on Iranian Embassy in Damascus.
Iran noted that Israel’s impunity continues even after clearly violating international protocols that warrant protection to diplomatic staff in conflict zones.
On April 2 last year, Israel attacked Iran’s Embassy in Syria in a deadly airstrike, killing more than ten people. Two high-ranking members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps were also among the dead.

Iran’s Ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari was also residing in the same building at the time of the attack, which he fortunately escaped.
In response, Iran was deeply angered and its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, “Whoever harms us, we will harm them.”
Recounting the events of last year, Iranian MFA said that retaliation was Iran’s “inherent right” and “Operation True Promise 1 was designed and executed” in response to Israel’s aggression.
The Ministry’s statement also noted that by carrying out the attack, Israel violated “the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1973 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Internationally Protected Persons.”

The statement also targeted United Nations Security Council for its inaction in the face of such “military-terrorist aggression.”
Iran also pinpointed the United States and few other European/Western countries that continue to back Israel and do not condemn its outright violation of all international norms.
“The ongoing impunity of the Zionist regime and the United States’ blatant obstruction of the duties of international legal and criminal courts to hold the regime’s leaders accountable and punish them for committing genocide…” are emboldening Israel; the Ministry’ statement observed.
It also honored the martyrs of the attack, stressing that Iran will never forget any attack on its people.
