Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump has said that the recent drop in oil prices could push Moscow and Kyiv toward a settlement of the war in Ukraine, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin may now be more inclined to perceive a peace deal.
He told the reporters at the Oval Office on Monday, “I think Russia with the price of oil right now, oil has gone down, we are in a good position to settle, they want to settle. Ukraine wants to settle.”
Talking about the casualties during the war, the US President reiterated that Hundreds of thousands of soldiers have either been killed or injured during the “bloodbath… This is a war that should never happened.”

The number of those killed during the war between the two countries was far higher than what was reported by their media. Neither country has published up-to-date casualty figures, he said.
He further stated that Putin had proposed a three-day ceasefire to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies over Nazi Germany in the Second World War, an initiative “which doesn’t sound like much but its a lot if you knew where we started from.”
The US President was also asked about the attack on the Nord Stream gas Pipeline and whether or not he would investigate the matter, to which, he replied, “They said Russia blew it up – yeah, … I think a lot of people know who blew it up.”

On September 26, 2022, a sharp pressure drop on the pipeline under the Baltic Sea was noticed, and several seismologists had detected explosions, which triggered a wave of speculation about who sabotaged the multibillion-dollar project. The pipeline was used to carry Russian gas to Germany.
At that time, multiple media outlets reported that Ukraine was behind the attack, an allegation that Kyiv repeatedly denied.
Russia, on the other hand, accused the Western powers including the US and Britain of being involved in the attack, but the country failed to produce evidence to support its claim.
