OIC urges global action for Gaza crisis

-

Jeddah, 14 February 2024 (TDI): Strongly denouncing Israeli military actions in Gaza, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed deep concern about the escalating attacks on the city of Rafah and urged global action for the Gaza crisis.

The OIC has cautioned about the seriousness of the expansion and escalation of the pace of the Israeli aggression, which constitutes a continuation of the crime of genocide, aggravation of human suffering in the Gaza Strip, and an unacceptable attempt to forcibly displace the Palestinians.

This action blatantly defies the order of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for Israel, to take immediate measures to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article II of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

In addition, the OIC expressed condemnation for the persistent assault, incitement, and organized act of terrorism carried out by extremist settler groups and Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian citizens.

This aggression targets their land, property, and holy sites in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The OIC urges the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities regarding the need to fulfill its foundational purpose of maintaining international peace and security.

This entails putting an end to this aggression in a comprehensive manner and ensuring the unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

OIC weekly report on Israeli crimes

The OIC presented its observatory weekly report of the previous week to give insights into Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

As reported, the number of Palestinian martyrs reached 872, most of whom were in the Gaza Strip. 12 Palestinians fell in the cities of the West Bank. 1178 people were also wounded as a result of the aerial and artillery bombardment of the cities on the Strip.

Israeli violations in Palestine, in general, amounted to about 3,004 violations encompassing actions such as civilian casualties, killings, and arresting civilians, in addition to settler attacks, inclusions into the Aqsa Mosque, demolition, confiscation of property, road closure, checkpoint installation, and shooting.

Israel has escalated its assault on Rafah in the southern Gaza strip. This assault is a matter of great concern as most of the residents are displaced individuals who fled the Israel bombing in the northern and central Gaza strip, where 105 massacres have been reported.

The OIC mentioned in the observatory report that February 12 was the most violent day under the review period. As violations in general, 517 were reported, with 166 martyrs and 204 injured.

Notably, 55 Palestinians were detained. This was the highest number of detainees in one single day (out of 195 Palestinians detained over the period under review).

Following a period of four months of Israeli aggression, the number of martyrs totaled 28,340, while the number of injuries reached 67,984.
