Officials for Champions One Day Cup Announced

Lahore, 5 September 2024 (TDI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced officials for the Champions One Day Cup scheduled to begin on 12 September at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

A press release issued today said the former ICC Elite Panel umpire Aleem Dar, and Asif Yaqoob of the ICC’s international panel will officiate the opening game between Wolves and Panthers on 12 Sept.

Former Test cricketer Ali Naqvi will lead the Playing Control Team (PCT), which also comprises Waleed Yaqub and Zulfiqar Jan as third and fourth umpires.

A total of nine umpires will be part of the panel for league stages, while officials for the knockout stage will be announced in due course, the PCB said.

“Aleem Dar, Asif Yaqoob, Waleed Yaqub and Zulfiqar Jan are amongst a panel of nine umpires who will be officiating in the tournament between country’s best of the best players with stalwarts such as Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik and Waqar Younis involved as mentors,” the cricket board added.

The other five umpires are Faisal Afreedi, Imtiaz Iqbal, Imran Jawed, Nasir Hussain and Rashid Riaz.

The top 150 cricket players in the nation will compete in the Champions One-Day Cup. The event is set to take place in a single-league format and is a 50-over competition. All games will start at 3 pm, except the Lions vs. Panthers game on September 16, which will kick off at 9.30 am.

The final is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, after three playoff games spread over four days.
