Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) on Monday condemned US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and said Iran has every right to defend itself under international law.
The meeting, called at short notice, was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Top cabinet members, military officials, and intelligence heads, including Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, attended the session. The participants reviewed the tense regional situation, particularly after the US joined Israeli operations against Iran.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the NSC said, “We are deeply concerned about the situation. These attacks threaten peace and stability not just in Iran, but across the region. Iran has the right to protect its sovereignty.”
The strikes targeted three key Iranian nuclear facilities Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22. The US said the attacks were part of a broader mission to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.

The NSC statement also criticized Israel for what it called “reckless aggression,” and said the attacks had come at a time when dialogue between Iran and the US was making quiet progress. Officials expressed regret that military action had replaced talks.
The committee further warned that such attacks violate multiple international agreements, including those under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Pakistan offered condolences to Iran over the loss of innocent lives and said it stood by the Iranian people during this difficult time.
The NSC also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and said it would continue engaging with all sides to reduce tensions.
