New International Airport Inaugurated in Turkmenistan

Kerki, 23 June 2021 (TDI): Today a new international airport has been commissioned in the city of Kerki in the east of Turkmenistan (Lebap Region). The opening ceremony was attended by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, members of the Government, and other leaders.

During the ceremony, the Head of State inspected the arrangement of the complex, visited the waiting room in the passenger terminal, on the platform, and in the CIP hall.

The airport can handle 100 passengers per hour.  Two large aircraft and four helicopters can simultaneously be parked. The airport has geostrategic local as it is closer to Uzbekistan in the north and Afghanistan in the south.

The airport has been constructed by a local private company “Gundogdy”. The Airport is beautifully built with three story-building with beautiful terminal halls, glass panels with all the important facilities at the airport. The airport’s runway is 2.700 meters long and 45 meters wide, and it is equipped with signaling, ornithological, radio engineering and navigation systems.

It is expected that the new international airport in the city of Kerki will stimulate the intensification of air cargo and passenger traffic both in the eastern region of the country, where a large industrial cluster is developing, and between neighboring countries.
