Kuala Lumpur, 8 June 2022 (TDI): Zac Goldsmith, the Minister for the Pacific and the International Environment of the United Kingdom (UK), met Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Minister of Environment and Water of Malaysia to sign a new climate agreement.

The partnership is officially known as “the UK-Malaysia Memorandum of Understanding 2022.” The objective of the agreement is to boost actions to fight climate change.

Both the UK and Malaysia will be working together to reduce pollution. On his official Twitter account, Zac Goldsmith shared his delight about the climate agreement.

Initially, both countries will be sharing their expertise regarding climate change. The memorandum also aims to promote scientific and technical collaboration. The United Kingdom leads in this type of research.

Furthermore, in the COP26, which took place in 2021 in Glasgow, Malaysia made an important commitment. As one of the countries with the most forest cover, it has a strong responsibility.

Therefore, it joined the Global Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use, and the Global Methane Pledge. Moreover, the United Kingdom is already leading multiple projects in Malaysia.

They revolve around building more sustainable cities, promoting renewable energy, and reducing overall pollution. Additionally, the agreement points to encouraging the private sector’s involvement in the fight against climate change.

However, the work of governments is not enough. Consequently, every member of the society must take action against climate change to make a noticeable impact.

The UK and Malaysia have come together to tackle climate change. Both nations agree on the need to develop more cooperation agreements of this kind with other countries.
