Netherlands arranged chartered flight for Afghan refugees from Islamabad

Amsterdam, 15 September 2021 (TDI): The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a special chartered flight is bringing almost a hundred Afghan refugees to Amsterdam.

The Afghan refugees had made their way to Islamabad, where they were received by the Dutch Embassy officials. The refugees stayed in Islamabad for a week, where they were provided shelter and new clothing by the Dutch Embassy. These refugees are mostly Afghans who worked closely with the Dutch in Afghanistan, mostly as interpreters. They have boarded a special flight to Amsterdam.

They were not put on a commercial flight because they do not have the necessary papers. Due to special circumstances, they were put on a special flight to Amsterdam. The Netherlands will depend on the European Union to cover the cost. Many of these refugees will continue their journey to other European countries after they land in Amsterdam.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, wrote that the Netherlands is grateful to Pakistan for its cooperation in this special flight. The Dutch authorities have been in close contact with Pakistani officials.

The Netherlands is working closely with Pakistan following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. The Dutch Foreign Minister, Sigrid Kaag, visited Pakistan recently to discuss the developing situation.
