Islamabad, 28 October 2022 (TDI): A cello recital was given to honor the Czech Republic‘s National Day at Serena Hotels Islamabad on Thursday evening, 27 October 2022.
For over an hour, renowned cellist Jiri Barta and his son Josef, 14, thrilled the crowd. It was a great musical treat for the audience. The event was held as a fundraiser for the flood affectees and organized together with Serena Hotels.
Other musicians from the National College of Arts (NCA) also joined them. Jiri Barta is the most well-known cellist in the Czech Republic today.
According to Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Tomas Smetanka, his country’s national day, which comes on October 28, commemorates the founding of the state that many still refer to as Czechoslovakia.
Jiri Barta opened the performance by playing the cello anthems of the Czech Republic, Pakistan, and the European Union (EU) after the address.

The first item he played was J. S. Bach’s “Prelude from Cello Suite No. 1,” which was printed on the program list. The musician described it as a sort of “anthem of cellists” that has been featured in movies.
In addition, Pakistani music with western fusion and local melodies and rhythms was performed in the presence of diplomats from foreign countries as well as Local representatives.
Representatives of corporate and social sectors also attended the event, which will help both states to further deepen their bilateral ties and cooperation.
Pakistan-Czech Republic Relations
Pakistan and the Czech Republic share bilateral relations. Czechoslovakia first established diplomatic ties with Pakistan on September 27, 1950.
Moving ahead, the Czech Republic restored its ties in 1991. The Czech Republic has an Embassy in Islamabad while Pakistan has one in Prague. The two nation’s yearly bilateral commerce is close to USD 100 million.
Pakistan’s top imports from the Czech Republic include machinery, paper & board, electrical & electronic equipment, and textiles and leather from the Czech Republic. The cultural ties between both states are also getting stronger with Tourism and Education.
