Hanoi, 12 September 2022 (TDI): The President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin is on an official visit to Vietnam. The President will be staying in Vietnam from the 12th to the 14th of September.

The visit to Vietnam is of utmost importance for Cambodia as it will address opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.
Moreover, it will tighten the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship following the 55th anniversary of the establishment of relations between both countries.
Afterward, Presdient Moha will visit Laos. During his visit, he will meet Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh.
Visit to Vietnam
During his visit to Vietnam from Monday to Wednesday, president Samrin will meet with Vuong Dinh Hue, chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly.
He will also pay courtesy calls to the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The Cambodian delegation also includes Men Sam An, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairwoman of the Cambodia – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, Chheang Vun.
Additionally, the Chairman of the NA’s Commission on Economy, Finance, Banking, and Vice Chairman of the Cambodia – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group; Loy Sophat is also a part of the delegation.
Chairman of the NA’s Commission on Planning, Investment, Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment, and Water Resources, Suos Yara, and Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth have also joined the NA President during his visit.
The purpose of the visit is to strengthen and expand the friendship and cooperation between both countries.
Vietnam-Cambodia Relations
Vietnam and Cambodia set up diplomatic ties on June 24, 1967. Since then, both countries have been standing beside each other’s side during challenging times.
Both countries have enjoyed numerous cooperation achievements in history. It is done under the motto of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term cooperation”.
Additionally, these relations have been growing in recent years. Vietnam and Cambodia share partnerships in many domains like trade, politics, and defense.
Moreover, bilateral trade rose 79.1% year on year to 9.54 billion USD in 2021. Correspondingly, it stands at 7.08 billion USD in 2022, up 17.8% from a year earlier.
