Rabat, 9 September 2023 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, engaged in discussions on Friday in Rabat with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan De Mistura.

De Mistura’s visit to the Kingdom is part of a regional tour aimed at revitalizing the round-table political process involving Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the “Polisario,”.

In accordance with UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 2654, adopted on October 27, 2022.

As stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

The talks occurred in the presence of Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Omar Hilal.

During the meeting, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed Morocco’s position, consistent with His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s statement on the 47th anniversary of the Green March on November 6, 2022.

The King emphasized the pursuit of a political solution, firmly grounded in the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, while maintaining the Kingdom’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Before this meeting, Staffan De Mistura conducted visits to Laayoune and Dakhla, where he engaged in a series of meetings with elected officials, tribal leaders, local dignitaries, and key figures from the business sector.

Additionally, he held discussions with representatives of civil society, youth, and women.

During these interactions, the Personal Envoy was briefed on the impressive economic and social progress and the robust political and democratic developments taking place in the two regions of the Moroccan Sahara.

Staffan De Mistura also had the opportunity to visit socio-economic investment projects and critical infrastructure initiatives.

He personally observed the significant advancements in implementing the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched in 2015 under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
