Pretoria, 3 September 2021 (TDI): Department of International Relations and Cooperation South Africa stated that Minister Naledi Pandor addressed the 7th Gertrude Shope Annual Dialogue Forum (GSADF) today, under the theme of Situating the Women Peace and Security Agenda in Africa’s Post-COVID-19 Recovery Phase.
Minister Naledi Pandor claimed that they are were well aware of the nature of the pandemic when it started, and eventually became a severe health problem for societies. This pandemic caused the complete shutdown in countries and the strict lockdown was imposed which caused some oppressed women and children to be trapped in homes with their violent and abusive family members. Those family members unleashed violence on them.
Furthermore, Minister Naledi Pandor stated that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the unemployment and poverty rates increased which caused many women to leave their jobs. Resulting in an increase in the hunger rate and livelihood problems of many families.
