Phnom Penh, 22 June 2022 (TDI): The Muslim World League Secretary-General, Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa arrived in the Kingdom of Cambodia on 19th June 2022.

Al-Issa visited the Kingdom of Cambodia at the invitation of his Majesty, the King of Cambodia, Norodom Sihamoni. The Cambodian Senior Government Minister Osman Hassan and Government officials welcomed the delegation at Phnom Penh International Airport.

This is a seven-day visit in which he will meet the Muslim community as well as the Muslim leaders. So far, Al-Issa has met with the  Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen.

At the meeting, Al-Issa applauded Cambodia for its exemplary practice of religious and racial intolerance. He said that the Kingdom is known as a “beacon for Muslim coexistence”.

He expressed that he was happy to visit Cambodia and described it as “a country without racial and religious discrimination”. Sen responded by saying that racial and religious harmony is very important for a country to achieve peace, stability, and development.

Al-Issa also had talks with Osman Hassan on Monday. He said that he highly valued the government’s policies which aim to promote harmony and prosperity among religions in Cambodia.

“Cambodia is a model country for the whole world that has worked hard to build peace effectively”, said Al-Issa “It is a peace-loving country with a well-known international reputation”.

The Muslim community can now make its own governing body to manage and lead Islamic affairs. There is also a quota that allows the recruitment of Islamic teachers into the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.

What’s more, the Islamic community can also wear their traditional attires for legal documents as well as at educational institutions.

Mohammed Al-Issa arrived in Cambodia to meet with the King of Cambodia. He will also meet with the President of the Senate, Say Chhum, and the President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin.
