Morocco Boat Tragedy: Dar for Timely assistance for victims

 Islamabad (TDI): A meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar reviewed in detail the boat tragedy off the coast of Morocco leading to several deaths, State-owned media reported.

The meeting was held on issues relating to 3rd country relocations of Afghan nationals but due to urgency it also reviewed activities relating to the boat incident.

Ishaq Dar issued instructions for coordination of government response and asked the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to ensure provision of efficient and timely assistance to the Pakistani victims of the tragedy took place in Morocco.

On January 16, Pakistani Foreign stated, :”Our Embassy in Rabat (Morocco) has informed us, that a boat carrying 80 passengers, including several Pakistani nationals, setting off from Mauritania, has capsized near the Moroccan port of Dakhla.”

Several survivors, including Pakistanis, are lodged in a camp near Dakhla. Our Embassy of in Rabat is in touch with local authorities. Additionally, a team from the Embassy has been dispatched to Dakhla to facilitate the Pakistani nationals and provide necessary assistance.

The Crisis Management Unit (CMU) in the Foreign Ministry has been activated and the Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister has instructed the relevant Government agencies to extend all possible facilitation to the affected Pakistanis.

Prime Minister of Pakistan had ordered strict action against those who are responsible for human trafficking in Pakistan.

Meeting was attended by the Foreign Secretary, Secretary Interior and other officials.
