Milestone of African Development Bank’s Program

Ivory Coast, 12 August 2021 (TDI): On International Youth Day the African Development Bank reported the registration of 130,000 users in its program “Coding for Employment” in digital skills.
It will be a great milestone to equip African youth with soft skills, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship, information, communication technology, and training to compete in a digital economy. This online program also offers free courses of important technical courses like web development, design, and data and science.
At these difficult times of COVID-19, when schools and colleges were closed, the youth got an opportunity of learning online through this program.

It would help to eradicate poverty as it equips African young generations for jobs in the future, said the Director of Banks human capital Martha Phiri.

Hajara Ayuba from Nigeria, one of the participants, said that she taught herself, MS Excel, from Coding for Employment platform. She added that the program not only smoothed her Excel skills but, has provided a platform for her to network and to push herself.

The program started from Tandem is now available in 45 countries, as COVID-19 accelerated its usage. Coding for Employment’s objective is to produce over 9 million jobs and to reach 32 million young and women all over Africa.
