MFA of Poland, Germany, and France on the 30th anniversary of Weimar triangle

Weimar, 11 September 2021 (TDI): Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Friday that he is delighted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Weimar triangle with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Poland Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau in order to bring their points of view closer together and shape a futuristic Europe.

On the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Weimar Triangle, the three Foreign Ministers issued a joint statement reaffirming their readiness to join efforts and take responsibility to strengthen the European Union’s capacity to act and promote peace, security, democracy, and human rights, as well as protect its own interests and foundational values.

They also stated that they will continue to help the Afghan people by giving aid to ease the present humanitarian crisis. Encourage a united EU approach to prospective Taliban engagement based on an assessment of established standards. Standing ready to assist the European Union’s efforts to develop collaboration with and among Afghanistan’s neighbors in order to avert disruptive consequences in the region. Promoting the inclusion of the OSCE’s regional knowledge and subject expertise in our efforts to achieve this goal.

30 years after the establishment of the Weimar Triangle, Germany, France, and Poland remains committed to further strengthening contacts and cooperation among their civil societies, particularly youth, as well as to increasing scientific exchanges and student mobility, with the goal of increasing respective knowledge and fostering mutual understanding for the benefit of a Europe united in diversity.
