Meta, Law Ministry to Enhance Digital Safety

Islamabad (TDI): Meta Global Head for Human Rights Policy, Miranda Sissons has called on Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar in Islamabad on Friday.

They discussed issues related to digital child safety, online protections, and human rights advocacy.

On this occasion, the minister and the Meta Global head agreed on the importance of continuous public awareness campaigns, the development of child safety educational content, and strengthening collaborative efforts to address emerging digital threats.

According to APP, they also emphasized the Ministry’s continued commitment to child rights protection, highlighting on-going initiatives such as digital literacy campaigns and public awareness programs focused on cyber bullying and online exploitation.

The Minister stressed the importance of Meta in the digital era.

He also ephasized inter-ministerial cooperation, particularly with the Ministry of Information Technology and the Ministry of Interior, to effectively implement policies safeguarding human rights in the digital realm.

The Meta Global Head for Human Rights Policy activities in the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication

A day earlier, Global Human Rights Policy Lead for Meta Miranda Sissions called on Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja in her office. The meeting focused on  digital safety with discussion on technical side of the issue. Meta Public Policy Head in Pakistan Dania Mukhtar also attended the meeting.

Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima said in today’s digital world, online threats are rapidly increasing, putting Internet users especially children and young people at greater risk. Children are particularly vulnerable to online dangers, she added.

On this occasion Shaza Fatima said online safety is a big challenge, adding that joint efforts are needed to cope with online threats. We must unite our efforts to combat online threats,

The Minister of State for IT said the present government is committed to enhancing the cybersecurity and improving the overall digital ecosystem across the country.

She said availability of quality content on social media platforms is utmost necessary.

The meeting was also attended by Member IT Syed Junaid Imam and Member International Coordination Imad Memon.,
