Geneva, 18 October 2022 (TDI): World Menopause Day is observed every year on the 18th of October all across the globe.
This day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the menopausal stage and the support options available for improving the health and well-being of women.
Menopause
Menopause is a period in a woman’s life in which her ovaries stop producing eggs, and she can no longer get pregnant. It typically occurs around age 45 to 55, but it can happen sooner or later depending on a woman’s health.
The theme of the year
The theme chosen for this year’s World Menopause Day 2022 is “Brain Fog and Memory Difficulties in Menopause.”
As a result of menopause, over two-thirds of women develop cognitive fog. It might be trouble recalling words or names, difficulties concentrating, or the familiar situation of stepping into a place for a specific reason but then entirely forgetting what that reason was.
These encounters might be alarming for some women concerned that they are getting dementia. Furthermore, they can influence a woman’s quality of life, self-esteem, and ability to work.
About Menopause Awareness
Together with The International Menopause Society (IMS), the World Health Organization (WHO) has specified October as World Menopause Awareness Month. In addition, October 18 is celebrated as World Menopause Awareness Day.
This day is significant as it highlights the importance of women, their families, and the clinical community celebrating and prioritizing the health and wellness of women as they age. Moreover, this day is about raising awareness and improving the health and well-being of women in their mid-life and beyond.
On this day, people and organizations participate in this global awareness campaign by organizing events to engage in their communities. It includes conferences, seminars, webinars, special talks, and other programs.
This day was established in 1984 by the World Health Organization and the International Menopause Society. The main purpose was to spread awareness about the menopausal phase of women’s life.
