Islamabad (TDI): Pakistani Singer Meesha Shafi has announced the release of her first full-length album, “Khilnay Ko.” The album will be released on all major streaming platforms on April 18.
Talking about her album, the singer said, “Khilnay Ko is a deeply introspective and therapeutic journey through the shadowed corridors of the human psyche. This album is an exploration of isolation, otherism, mental health, abandonment, and the relentless tension between contrasting forces that shape our existence.”
She said that each track of her album is a reflection of the internal battles that so many people face on a daily basis, as well as their healing journey, but these battles are rarely spoken of.
Her album would highlight feelings everyone has faced, the feelings of displacement, loneliness, and the overwhelming weight of being.
Before the release of the album, Meesha Shafi also shared a teaser: Beej Magar Andhaira Maangay, which translates to “To bloom, light is essential, But the seed asks for darkness.”
The singer has also removed all previous posts and reels from her Instagram account, which also signal a rebirth in her life and work.
The album also represents Meesha Shafi’s personal and professional evolution. Earlier in 2023, she had paired with Rupinder “Rup” Singh Magon, an Indian-Canadian singer, in an episode of “Out in the Open.”
During the episode, Meesha Shafi opened up about the major transition she went through when she moved from Pakistan to Toronto.
She said, “Immigration is one of those things where you won’t know what it feels like until you go through it. Toronto is a melting pot, and a lot more than other western cities…It’s not mainstream, though”

Despite being a renowned artist in Pakistan, her move to Toronto allowed her to embrace the challenges of re-discovering herself and her identity in a foreign country, which also became the inspiration behind her new album.
The singer hadn’t had any songs released since 2023 when she sang the OST for the drama, “Jaisay Aapki Marzi.” The announcement of her new album is being dubbed as her comeback to the music industry.
As the release date for her first album approaches, her fans have started anticipating for what promises to be a deeply personal and evocative music album.
From what we have gathered from her social media post, “Khilnay Ko” would not merely be a collection of songs, but an invitation to explore the journey of healing and rebirth through Meesha’s lens.
