Maldives Foreign Minister Visits UAE

Male, September 3 2024, (TDI): Foreign Minister of Maldives, Moosa Zameer has departed for an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was invited by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE. The visit would play a key role in improving the bilateral relations between UAE and Maldives.

Details of the Visit

The visit will take place from 2 – 4 September 2024. Foreign Minister Zameer will engage in high-level discussions with His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE. In addition, he would also hold meetings with other senior officials of the Government of the UAE. 

Ambassador-at-Large, Ahmed Naseer; Secretary, Bilateral, Dr Hala Hameed; and Joint Secretary, Mariyam Reesha would also accompany FM Zameer for this visit, Maldives Foreign Ministry has reported. 

Maldives’ Outreach to the Middle East

The visit would play a key role in strengthening the bilateral ties between Maldives and UAE and help in exploring new avenues for collaboration, FM Zameer underscored in a tweet. He said that he is looking forward to meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to take the Maldives-UAE partnership ahead.

Currently, Maldives is going through a range of economic issues. In hopes of better economic assistance, it is expanding its diplomatic foothold in other countries, specifically the Middle Eastern states. In this regard, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has also visited Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. These visits have renewed hope of receiving financial assistance, he mentioned in a recent press conference.
