Malaysia Voices Support for Pakistan's Peace Efforts in the Middle East

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace in the Middle East and exchanged greetings on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr.

Prior to this call, Malaysian Prime Minister, on Wednesday, welcomed Pakistan’s formal offer to host talks between Iran and the United States.

“Pakistan’s relationships with the relevant parties, and its standing as a credible voice in the Muslim world, place it in a strong position to help create the conditions for meaningful negotiations,” PM Ibrahim wrote in a post on X

In the phone call on Thursday, Prime Minister Sharif “briefed the Malaysian Prime Minister on the latest diplomatic efforts, including his discussions with leaders of brotherly Gulf countries and Iran, to bring the U.S. and Iran to the negotiating table,” as per an official statement.

He also expressed gratitude to his Malaysian counterpart for Kuala Lumpur’s strong diplomatic backing of Islamabad’s leadership role in ongoing mediation efforts related to the Middle East crisis.

Pakistan’s role in facilitating negotiations has now become official as the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that the United States and Iran are expected to hold wide-ranging negotiations in Islamabad this weekend.

Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary, working alongside regional partners to facilitate backchannel communication between Washington and Tehran.

Malaysian Prime Minister, while commending Sharif’s leadership, shared details of his own diplomatic interactions with world leaders, emphasizing the urgency of ending hostilities in the Middle East.

Malaysia has consistently called for peaceful resolutions to conflicts in the Muslim world and has supported multilateral diplomacy through international platforms.
