Kuala Lumpur, 6 May 2023 (TDI): Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Ambassador of Malaysia to Saudi Arabia, attended the Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee to discuss the current situation in Sudan and efforts to restore security and stability in the country, on 3 May.
The meeting was called to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan, plagued by political instability, economic challenges, and violence in the form of airstrikes by politically dominant authorities.
The OIC Executive Committee discussed the deteriorating security situation in Sudan, which has seen a rise in armed conflict, human rights abuses, and displacement of civilians.
Representatives from OIC member states, including Sudan, and representatives from regional and international organizations attended the meeting.
The attendees discussed the need for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, which has left millions of people needing assistance.

During the meeting, Ambassador Wan Zaidi emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to supporting efforts to restore peace and stability in Sudan.
Zaidi highlighted Malaysia’s longstanding ties with Sudan and its role in providing attended entire humanitarian assistance to the country.
Ambassador Wan Zaidi also called on the international community to support Sudan in achieving lasting peace and stability.
Zaidi emphasized the need for coordinated action by OIC member states, regional organizations, and the international community to address the crisis in Sudan.
The meeting underscored the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in addressing crises and promoting regional peace and security.
