The conference was held with the participation of the Mayor of the Roeser commune, Tom Jungen. The Space Campus would be dedicated completely to the space sector to ensure the competitive position of businesses and public research institutions in this field.
The campus will be established on two different sites with various focuses to make the most of each location in order to best address the demands of the Luxembourg ecosystem.
Main Site
The main site of the Space Campus will be in Kockelscheuer, with an area of nearly 7 hectares, for high-tech activities. It will house the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA) and the activities directly related to space companies.
Second Site
The second site of the Space Campus would be in Belval which has an initial area of about 69 hectares and can eventually occupy up to 1.9 hectares. The majority of space-related research activities will be concentrated in Belval in the future.
The Minister of Higher Education and Research, Claude Meisch said “the ‘Space Campus’ is part of the logic of the national research and innovation strategy aimed at optimal coordination between government, public research, and the sector for the benefit of the country.”
He also said that both sides are perfectly complementary to each other for the initiative. Minister of Economy, Franz Fayot said “Ultimately, the campus has the ambition to become the center of gravity of the Luxembourg space ecosystem.”
Tom Jungen, the Mayor of the Roeser Municipality said “the announcement of the establishment of a part of the future “Space campus” in Kockelscheuer is part of the commitments of my Municipality in the reassignment of this industrial site.”
