Islamabad, 12 August 2022 (TDI): Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Law and Justice of Pakistan, received Riina Kionka, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, at the Ministry of Law on Thursday.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the issues of mutual interest of regional as well as international levels. They also discussed measures for further development of EU and Pakistan bilateral relations.
The Law Minister informed the EU Ambassador about the legislation in Pakistan regarding enforced disappearance and missing persons. Moreover, he briefed the Ambassador about legislation regarding minorities in Pakistan.
The Minister emphasized that solving the issue of missing persons was among the priorities of the Pakistani government.
Moreover, he highlighted that the government was fully aware of the issues of minorities in Pakistan and was committed to solving their problems.
Additionally, the Minister underscored Pakistan had maintained strong relations with the European Union in the past 60 years.
He said the EU had been a major contributor to Pakistan’s socio-economic development. Further, he added that the EU’s assistance had improved the quality of life of Pakistani people.
Moreover, EU Ambassador discussed progress made and further steps needed to implement international commitments related to the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+)
Apart from this, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to work together and expressed their desire for an even stronger partnership between the EU and Pakistan.
Previous Meetings
Recently, Ambassador Riina Kionka called on Miftah Ismail, Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue of Pakistan. The Ambassador praised the ongoing economic reform agenda of the Pakistani government.
Both sides emphasized increasing EU-Pakistan bilateral ties and development cooperation during the meeting.
Previously, on 2nd August, the EU Ambassador met with Pakistan’s Minister for Human Rights, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada. They discussed the growing partnership between both sides under the EU- Pakistan Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP).
Further, Dr. Riina Kionka also had meetings with other Pakistani government officials, including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto and Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood.
