Doha, 10 October 2022 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zheenbek Kulubaev met the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industries of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Qatar Charity, Youssef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, during his visit to Qatar from 8-9 October.

Meeting with the Minister of Trade 

The Foreign Minister met with the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industries of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani on the second day of his visit.

During the meeting, both sides discussed trade, economic and investment cooperation between their countries, mentioning the great potential and significance that exists.

The two sides highlighted the importance of holding the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation, Business Forum and other events in the beginning of 2023 and agreed to form special working groups to prepare for it.

The head of the Ministry of Commerce expressed his interest in cooperation in the fields of energy, mining, agriculture and tourism.

In order to expand bilateral cooperation, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Thani invited the Kyrgyz side to participate in the Economic Forum and Expo 2023 dedicated to agriculture and the environment, which will be held next year in Doha.

Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev assured that the Kyrgyz side will participate in these events at a high level.

The two parties agreed to intensify work to implement the agreements reached, as well as to organize the visit of the Minister of Trade and Industry of the State of Qatar, Mohammed Al Thani, to the Kyrgyz Republic in 2023.

Meeting with the CEO of Qatar Charity

The CEO of Qatar Charity and the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyz Republic discussed cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Qatar charity regarding the implementation of projects, as well as the expansion of projects in the areas of healthcare, education and social construction of housing units for social welfare.

The CEO presented the activities of the Qatar charity, including the work of his office in Bishkek in recent years. According to Yusuf Al-Kuwari’s information, $15 million in aid has been provided to Kyrgyzstan over the past few years.

The Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the fruitful work carried out by the Qatar Charity office in Bishkek and the assistance provided to the Kyrgyz people. He briefed the CEO on the consequences of the armed invasion of Tajikistan on the territory of Kyrgyzstan.

Youssef Al-Kuwari, confirming the success of the existing cooperation between the two parties, announced the planned increase in the volume of aid to Kyrgyzstan next year.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue close cooperation with the Qatar Charity office in Bishkek on continuing to implement important projects for the people of Kyrgyzstan.
