Dushanbe, 23 November 2021 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Ruslan Kazakbayev, met Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Mukhriddin. Both Ministers met on the framework of their participation in the dialogue European Union-Central Asia, on 21 November.

Kazakbayev and Mukhriddin had a constructive dialogue on matters regarding joint activities, in the Kyrgyz-Tajik relations. According to the Ministers, build those joint activities, included international multilateral platforms.
Kazakbayev and Mukhriddin shared their opinion on the existence of interacting mechanisms. The Ministers expressed their desire to address the priorities and to strengthen the bilateral cooperation, and the necessity to increase work efficiency within the Interstate Coordination Council framework.
Augment the efficiency within different mechanisms
Kazakbayev and Mukhriddin also discussed the need to increase the efficiency within both Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs. Regarding efficiency, the meeting included other areas like the deputy groups of Parliaments and also the Kyrgyz-Tajik Intergovernmental Commissions on the Comprehensive Consideration of Bilateral Issues.

Lastly, the Ministers discussed the efficiency of the delimitation of their borders; and the inter-M.M. consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers. Kazakbayev also remarked that Kyrgyzstan aims to complete quickly the legal registration of their borders.

Kazakbayev then reaffirmed the belief of Kyrgyzstan that the delimitation of the borders will have a positive impact on their relations. Muhriddin and Kazakbayev paid special attention to the protection of the rights and interests of the citizens.
Further proposals
Kazakbayev mentioned that the Kyrgyz delegation proposed consular consultations, with the involvement of several representatives. According to Kazakbayev, those representatives would come from the authorized bodies of the prosecutor’s office, the penitentiary system, and border agencies.
The Ministers also agreed to restore the coordination meetings of the Kyrgyz-Tajik authorized bodies. Mukhriddin and Kazakbayev then agreed to create operational working groups. Those groups would be between the Prosecutor General’s Offices and the Ministries of Internal Affairs.
The objective of those groups would be to solve issues regarding the protection of citizens’ rights. Kazakbayev then stressed the need to continue their joint work to build confidence among the border citizens.
This is to ensure stability and also security in the border region.
Economic and Cultural cooperation
Mukhriddin and Kazakbayev then discussed the prospects for economic cooperation, and also to facilitate mutual trips of citizens. Furthermore, the Ministers discussed prospects to liberalize the implementation of freight traffic between both.
Regarding cultural and humanitarian cooperation, Mukhriddin and Kazakbayev acknowledged the role of organizing Days of Culture, sports events, and also maintaining contact at youth and academy levels.
Kazakbayev and Mukhriddin expressed their intention to maintain active cooperation to strengthen their bilateral relations. The cooperation will also have a positive impact on good-neighborliness between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, after all, it aims to solve issues by diplomatic methods.
