Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov Arrives in Islamabad on Maiden Visit

Rawalpindi (TDI): Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day maiden state visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior ministers, top officials, and leading business figures.

The visiting president was received at Nur Khan Airbase by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari. A 21-gun salute was fired in his honour, and children dressed in traditional attire presented him with a bouquet.

The visit follows an official invitation extended by PM Shehbaz Sharif, with the delegation expected to engage in a series of high-level meetings and discussions during the two-day program.

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan share longstanding ties rooted in cultural, historical, and spiritual affinities. Bilateral cooperation has recently expanded to include cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and digital finance, formalised in agreements signed in August.

In July, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to increasing bilateral trade to $100 million during a session of their intergovernmental commission.

Beyond bilateral relations, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are active members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a 10-nation Eurasian security and political bloc that includes China, Russia, India, and Iran.

The visit is expected to further strengthen economic, cultural, and political ties between the two nations, while opening avenues for trade, investment, and regional cooperation.

Analysts say that such high-level exchanges enhance mutual understanding, promote people-to-people contacts, and build trust, which is essential for long-term regional stability.
