Bishkek, 6 September 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, received the Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kyrgyz Republic, Du Dewen, on September 5.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening Kyrgyz-Chinese relations, enhancing trade and economic cooperation, and implementing infrastructure projects at the expense of grant funds from China during the meeting.

The Kyrgyz Foreign Minister discussed with the Ambassador the importance of practical measures for the implementation of the “China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan” railway construction project during the meeting.

Moreover, the Foreign Minister also stressed the prospects of this road and its high transit potential, which will strengthen interconnectedness in the region.

The Foreign Minister also discussed, with the Ambassador, how to improve the operation of checkpoints and enhance the number of agricultural goods that the Kyrgyz Republic exports to China.

The parties also talked about holding meetings and events in conjunction with the 77th UN General Assembly session as well as the impending SCO Summit when it came to international cooperation.

Bilateral relations between China and Kyrgyzstan

For the development of Kyrgyz-Chinese relations, trade and economic cooperation serve as the main catalyst. China is the main trade and investment partner of Kyrgyzstan.

China took first place in trade and investment in the economy of Kyrgyzstan at the end of 2016 and 2017.

In 2016 the foreign trade between the two countries amounted to 1.563 billion US dollars according to the National Statistic Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The two sides are currently implementing a number of joint projects in the Kyrgyz Republic, which have an important social and economic significance for Kyrgyzstan.

Both countries are also connected by a centuries-old history and culture that stretches from the time of the Great Silk Road.

The meeting between the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador was held in a friendly atmosphere. Both the parties showed gratitude to each other and the Ambassador also thanked the Foreign Minister.
