Kuwait and Philippines celebrates 43th diplomatic anniversary.

Manila, 18 January 2022 (TDI): Philippines and Kuwait celebrate 43 years of diplomatic relations between them.

More than four decades ago, the two states tightened their bond in diplomatic norms on 17 January 1979. Earlier, the Philippines recognized the State of Kuwait in 1961, right after 3 months it gained independence.

In this line, the southeast Asian country had established its embassy in an Arab state in 1979. While Kuwait could establish an embassy in Manila on 24 May 1996.

During these 4 decades of friendly terms, 2 of the Presidents of the Philippines visited officially the State of Kuwait.

The two visiting heads included the Philippines’s Former President Fidel V. Ramos and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The Philippines and Kuwait, Trade Partners

In addition to that, the trade between Kuwait and the Philippines in the year 2020 marked 486.05 million US dollars. Moreover, the total exports sent by Kuwait to the Philippines in the same year reached 452.77 million US dollars.

In the year 2022, the Philippines also received 5 million U.S. dollars in the form of net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

In addition to it, 237, 399 Filipinos have been working and staying in the republic. The two countries also run one airline among them additionally.

Employment of Domestic agreement

In the year 2018, the two governments also signed the Employment of Domestic agreement among them.

The agreement was made between them as the Philippines President had banned Filipinos from traveling to the Arab country. The decision came from the Philippines due to an outcry of people after a Filipino maid was found dead in the Kuwaiti department.

Such an agreement ensured and protected the rights of Filipino domestic workers in Kuwait. Therefore, the agreement also promoted the welfare of the citizens of both states to enhance their living conditions.
