KSA offers solidarity, aid to Türkiye following devastating earthquake

Riyadh, 8 February 2023 (TDI): Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) spoke with the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He conveyed to the President his heartfelt sympathy and condolences on the loss due to the tragic earthquake. Likewise, he expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and the Turkish people and hoped the injured recover swiftly.

Crown Prince emphasized the Kingdom’s solidarity with the Turkish Republic and assistance as it works to recover from this natural tragedy.

The President of Türkiye expressed his gratitude to the Crown Prince for his noble and brotherly thoughts. He praised the Kingdom for standing by Türkiye’s side during this challenging moment.

In addition, Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud ordered the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to set up and run an air bridge to assist earthquake victims in Syria and Türkiye.

The bridge will provide individuals in Syria and Türkiye better access to medical care, shelter, and food. The victim can access other forms of support that will help them recover from the earthquake.

The Saudi Crown Prince also order the organization of a charitable effort through KSrelief’s Sahem Platform.

The Supervisor General of KS Relief, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, stated that the help is offered due to the Saudi leadership’s devotion to supporting individuals impacted by the tragic earthquake in Syria and Türkiye.

In addition, he mentioned that different kinds of food, housing, and medical assistance would be provided in support of the search and rescue operations.

Humanitarian Crisis in Türkiye 

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Türkiye and Syria on Monday. It brought down thousands of buildings, including several apartment blocks, and destroyed hospitals. It also injured or displaced tens of thousands of people.

Rescuers in Türkiye and Syria are working in subzero temperatures, searching through the remnants of buildings destroyed by a strong earthquake. The death toll surpassed 8,000 and is expected to increase.

Turkish President Erdogan has declared a three-month state of emergency. In the 10 regions most severely impacted by the earthquake. Approximately 70 countries are delivering relief to Türkiye.
