Tehran (TDI): Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has said that a “new phase” is emerging in the Persian Gulf, claiming that Tehran’s evolving control over the Strait of Hormuz will lead to stability and economic gains across the region.

In a written message released on Thursday, Khamenei said the situation in the Gulf had shifted since the outbreak of conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel earlier this year. He stated that Iran intends to secure the vital waterway and put an end to what he described as hostile interference.

He said that a new framework for managing the Strait of Hormuz would ensure calm, encourage development and benefit all Gulf nations. Khamenei also claimed that recent events marked a turning point, portraying the outcome of the confrontation as a setback for Washington.

The Supreme Leader, who reportedly sustained injuries during the initial strikes that killed his father, former leader Ali Khamenei, has remained out of public view since assuming power last month.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high. The United States recently tightened pressure by imposing a blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran continues to exert influence over shipping routes through the strait, one of the world’s most critical oil transit corridors.

Officials in Washington are now working on plans to establish a multinational effort involving allied countries and commercial shipping operators to maintain safe passage through Hormuz, even as restrictions on Iran remain in place.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly criticized the blockade, calling it illegal and warning it could destabilise the region further. Similarly, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said greater control over the strait would allow Iran and its neighbours to move toward a future free from external interference.

On the US side, President Donald Trump is expected to review new military options, with reports suggesting preparations are underway for a prolonged strategy aimed at pressuring Tehran over its nuclear program.
