Kenya promotes peace in DR Congo

Kigali, 14 November 2022 (TDI): Kenya has been instrumental in trying to broker a permanent peace deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 Rebels.

The government of Kenya is working tirelessly to ensure that peace is brought to the two parties. The former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta has for a while now been at the forefront of the peace deal even before the election.

The crises between the forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the M23 Rebels have called for a lot of attention and most especially from their neighboring country Kenya.

Kenyan has continued in its effort to use all diplomatic means to ensure that both parties accept the terms needed to end the war. It also earlier on provided military support to ensure that peace is restored to the place.

Clash between the DRC and the Rebels

On Friday, 11 November 2022 the clash between the two forces started again as there was the continuous firing of guns and kills. The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo deployed a lot of military personnel in the area.

Effects of the clash

Medical sources said at least five civilians, including two children, were killed and eleven wounded in Friday’s clash. The clash has continued to receive a lot of criticism from both the African continent and the International Community.

There has been power disruption in the area due to the clashes. Goma, one of the hotspots of the conflict has not had any power supply. The World Food Programme (WFP) said the gunmen have attacked United Nations-backed schools as well.

Remarks from other governments

The President of Angola, Joao Lourenco has pursued diplomatic ways to bring peace between these two parties. The President is in serious diplomatic talks between both parties to ensure that they understand each other and return to a peace talk

Also, the Africa Union (AU) has condemned the killings and has called for a peace talk between both parties. The effort of Kenya and other countries is set to yield effort for the peace needed.
