Kazan (TDI): The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, announced 2022-2031 as Russia’s decade of Science and Technology, as the city of Kazan hosted the Third International Forum of Education Ministers titled “Shaping the Future” from June 11 to 12.
The initiative is aimed at boosting research, innovation and youth engagement in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and to strengthen the role of science and technology in national development.
The “Decade of Science and Technology” was first announced by Russian President Putin in April 2022 to promote youth participation in research and innovation.
The event hosted over 100 foreign delegates representing Ministries of Education of 32 countries including UAE, Belarus, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Myanmar, Laos, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe and others.

The forum was attended by representatives of each country while the Minister of Education of Russia Sergey Kravtsov and head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov officially represented the host country.
President Putin, in his video address, emphasized, “education should preserve national identity while supporting cultural and traditional diversity”.
In a press conference that was dedicated to the launch of the Forum, Minister Kravtsov said, “For many education ministers, the Shaping the Future forum in Kazan has already become a tradition. Representatives of foreign countries, as well as the Russian education system as a whole, are increasingly interested in it every year. This year, more than 20 ministers participated in the forum.”

“We are very interested in the experience of friendly countries. I am sure it can be useful for the development of our national education system. We are an open country, we are ready to share our experience. We plan to propose the formation of a new system for assessing the quality of education,” he added.
The distinguished guests and experts discussed the changing global trends and challenges in the education system, digital transformation and innovation and also discussed the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and online learning and different ways to develop the national education system reforms and international cooperation.
The Russian Ministry of Education hosted this event in collaboration with the Government of Tatarstan and with the support of the Foreign Ministry of Russia.
