Kazakhstan Promotes Peace in Middle East

New York, 27 April 2023 (TDI): First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Omarov participated in United Nations (UN) Security Council’s open debates on the Middle East.

During his address to the UN Security Council, Omarov affirmed Kazakhstan’s devotion to fostering world peace and security. He urged Israel and Palestine to avoid any action that would jeopardize the advancement of peace based on the two-state solution for the two nations.

He encouraged both sides to take benefit of the Conference on Interaction and Trust-Building Measures in Asia (CSMT) to bring their perspectives closer together. The world community appreciated Kazakhstan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

In addition to his speech to the Security Council, Omarov met with various UN officials. During a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, both leaders reviewed current international challenges and the potential for advancing collaboration between Kazakhstan and the UN.

They also discussed the implementation of the initiative to establish the United Nations Regional Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty.

Omarov’s conversation with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Legal Affairs Miguel de Serpa Suarez covered the adoption of various UN agreements. Both representatives investigated the legal aspects of establishing the UN Centre for SDGs in Almaty.

The Foreign Minister highlighted Kazakhstan’s dedication to assisting the UN in achieving its global goals through close collaboration and enabling sustainable development.

Omarov also met with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix. During his appointment, Omarov examined Kazakhstan’s efforts in training troops from various nations at the Kazcent Peace Training Center of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh envoy also noted that his country intends to continue active involvement in UN peacekeeping deployments and contribute to international security.
