Kazakhstan Hosts Germany-Central Asia Summit

Astana, (TD): Kazakhstan hosted the second Germany-Central Asia summit in Astana on Tuesday, with all five Central Asian presidents and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in attendance.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed Scholz to the Independence Palace for the summit, joined by his Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen, and Uzbek counterparts.

In his opening address, Tokayev commended the regular and trustful dialogue established since the inaugural summit in Berlin last September.

Tokayev highlighted the commitment of Central Asian states and Germany to enhance regional strategic partnerships.

He praised Germany’s socio-economic and technological advancements, emphasizing the importance of expanding trade and energy cooperation.

Kazakhstan to Increase Oil Exports

Kazakhstan expressed readiness to increase oil exports to Germany and to advance green energy projects, including a proposed green energy transmission line across the Caspian Sea.

Other key areas of focus include strengthening industrial ties, improving transport and logistics connectivity, and enhancing scientific and educational collaboration.
Tokayev reaffirmed the shared commitment to addressing global challenges such as terrorism, extremism, and climate change through multilateral efforts, including those of the United Nations.

A joint statement was issued following the summit discussions.

Scholz’s visit to Central Asia, which began in Uzbekistan on Sunday, marks a significant step in deepening Germany’s engagement with the region.
