Xi’an, 18 May 2023 (TDI): President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, is on a state visit to China to enhance the strategic alliance between Kazakhstan and China to develop collaboration in various domains of mutual interest.
The visit, marked by warm hospitality and in-depth discussions, sought to strengthen the two countries’ longstanding relationship. During the ceremonial welcome, President Tokayev was received by the Guard of Honor company.
On the first day of his tour, President Tokayev met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders extensively examined many elements of bilateral engagement.
President Tokayev thanked President Xi Jinping for the invitation and cordial welcome. He also congratulated him on his re-election as President of China.
He underscored China’s significance to Kazakhstan, emphasizing the unshakable friendship and mutual support that serve as the foundation of their relationship.
The Heads of State desire to strengthen bilateral relations while fostering regional and international security and partnership. President Tokayev acknowledged President Xi Jinping’s contributions to developing bilateral ties. He also reaffirmed his determination to take the alliance to new heights. He underlined that the conversations had during the visit added to the momentum for enhancing interstate cooperation.
President Xi Jinping expressed gratitude to President Tokayev for accepting the invitation and wished him a happy 70th anniversary. He noted the significance of President Tokayev’s state visit, symbolizing the growing bilateral cooperation and highlighting Kazakhstan’s close connections with China.
During the “golden 30th anniversary” of Sino-Kazakh relations, President Xi Jinping emphasized the value of both countries sustaining their traditions of friendship, collaborative support, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The two leaders covered various issues, including trade, economic cooperation, energy, transportation, education, research, and local and global issues of common concern.
Following the dialogues, both Presidents inked a Joint Statement expressing their commitment to improving bilateral cooperation. Both nations’ delegations signed several crucial documents, demonstrating their commitment to collaboration and practical initiatives.
Agreements on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, technical and economic cooperation, industrialization and investment, reciprocal visa exemption, international road transport, agricultural requirements for exports, energy cooperation, cultural exchanges, and academic partnerships are among the signed documents.
One of the critical events of the visit of the Kazakh President will be launching the construction of Kazakhstan’s logistics center in the dry port of Xi’an. The logistics center will be a vital hub for shipping commodities between China and Kazakhstan and deeper into Central Asia, contributing to developing the region’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
President Tokayev will also attend the Central Asia-China Summit to address regional security, economic development, and collaboration in multiple areas. Leaders from the region will be able to discuss topics of shared interest at the summit and look at methods to improve regional cooperation.
In addition, President Tokayev will attend the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Xi’an, which will provide consular services to Kazakh people and develop cultural and economic connections between Kazakhstan and China’s Shaanxi region.
The Kazakh President will also meet with the heads of critical Chinese corporations to discuss the potential for partnership and investment in Kazakhstan.
During his visit, he will address various issues, including trade and economic ties, acquisition, transportation and logistics, energy, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
