Kazakhstan commemorates 32nd Independence Day

Astana, 16 December 2023 (TDI): The Republic of Kazakhstan commemorated the 32nd Independence Day of the country with enthusiasm on December 16. President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated the nation with a warm note on this occasion.

In his message, Tokayev paid tribute to the spirit of the men who contributed immeasurably to making the nation’s dream of freedom a reality. He highlighted that independence is a great struggle and it is their sacred duty to preserve it as a cherished value that is considered the pillar of a prosperous state.

Kazakh President reiterated the commitment that Kazakhstan does not stray from its strategic course and is steadily advancing the tradition of statehood. He pronounced that we are building a fair Kazakhstan that will provide equitable opportunities for all citizens and pave the road for future prosperity and development.

“We will attain this goal if principles like unity and stability, law and order, responsibility and solidarity, education, and hard effort are firmly established in society”, Tokayev added.

On October 25, 1990, the Kazakh SSR (Soviet Socialist Republic) ratified the Declaration on State Sovereignty, marking the country’s first step towards independence. The declaration served as the legal foundation for the development and adoption of Kazakhstan’s constitutional law on independence in 1991.

On December 16, 1991, the Supreme Council enacted the statute on autonomy and state sovereignty, earning legal status as an independent democratic state. The legislation gave Kazakhstan the ability to independently establish and conduct domestic and foreign policy, marking a watershed milestone in the country’s modern history.

Numerous friendly states around the globe and international organizations greeted Kazakhstan on this auspicious day of Independence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan congratulated the brotherly country Kazakhstan and expressed the fraternal citizens of safety and welfare.

The British Embassy in Kazakhstan felicitated the state with a happy Independence Day and wished the people of Kazakhstan peace and prosperity ahead.

The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Kazakhstan sent cordial greetings to the Kazakh nation desiring a forward path of wellness, success in all endeavors, and stability in the country.

Tomas Zdechovsky, Chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for Central Asia, extended heartfelt congratulations to Kazakhstan wishing them the best and a strong hope that the bond between Kazakhstan and the EU will continue to strengthen.

Ambassador Margulan Baimukhan thanked MEP Zdechovsky for warm congratulations and the sincere intent of Kazakhstan to continue the dialogue with the European Parliament in the coming season.

The United Nations while felicitating Kazakhstan called it the time to celebrate the power, unity, and prosperity of this great day. It further wished that spirit of liberty to continue which would lead Kazakhstanis to a brighter future.

On the eve of their anniversary of independence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye congratulated Kazakhstan. The Ministry termed the Kazakh Republic as an ‘enhanced strategic partner’ based on bilateral amicable longstanding ties.

Kazakhstan went through a remarkable development, winning international esteem. The country’s adoption of a balanced foreign policy demonstrates its efforts to preserve friendly relations with major global powers such as Russia, China, the European Union, and the United States, as well as to create effective partnerships with key international organizations.
