Beijing, 8 March 2021 (TDI)): Kakazkhstan athlete Alexander Gerlitz won a bronze medal in the 10-kilometre race in Beijing Paralympics 2022. It is the first medal of the Kazakh athletes at the Winter Paralympic Games. He won in the category of Para Biathlon – Middle distance standing. However, Canadian player Mark Arendz won the gold medal while Ukrainian player won the silver medal in that category.
Five athletes represent the Paralympic national team of Kazakhstan at the 13th Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing. These are Yerbol Khamitov, Sergei Usolcev, Yuri Berezin, Alexander Gerlitz, and Denis Petrenko. Also, Denis Petrenko participates in two sporting events: biathlon and cross country skiing.

Kazakhstan’s President Qasym Jomart Toqayev congratulated Alexandar for the achievement. President also expressed best wishes for sports achievements in the future.

President Toqayev tweeted, “At the Paralympic Games in Beijing, Kazakh biathlete Alexander Gerlitz won a bronze medal in the 10 km race. This is the first medal of Kazakhstan at the Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing. I heartily congratulate Alexander and wish him further sporting achievements”.
Beijing Paralympics 2022; An Overview
International Paralympics Committee (IPC) has organized Winter Paralympics in Beijing 2022 from 4 March to 13 March. More than six hundred players from across the globe are participating in the games. Likewise, the theme of the Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing is ‘Joyful Rendezvous upon Pure Ice and Snow‘.
On the point table, China is at the top position with 27 medals, including eight gold and eight silver medals. Likewise, Ukraine sits at the second position on the point table with 17 medals, including six gold and seven silver medals. Further, Canada stands at the 3rd position with 13 medals, including five gold and two silver medals.
