Islamabad (TDI): The Netherlands Embassy in Pakistan held its annual human rights Tulip Award ceremony on Tuesday to honor individuals and organizations advocating for human rights in the country.
This year’s award was presented to journalist Asad Ali Toor for his impactful reporting on critical issues, including digital rights, press freedom and democratic rights in Pakistan.
Ambassador Henny de Vries lauded Pakistan’s human rights defenders for their resilience in the face of numerous challenges.
She highlighted the importance of their efforts in promoting fundamental rights, such as religious freedom and freedom of expression.

Upon accepting the award, Toor remarked, “Today is the biggest day of my life and career, as the global community recognizes my work. This award will not only encourage me but also make me realize the responsibility I carry from now on in the journey of reporting on the marginalized, particularly those living in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and among minorities across Pakistan the country.”

The Embassy’s Human Rights Tulip Award includes a grant for human rights project, enabling the recipient to advance their efforts in defending human rights in Pakistan.
