Joe Biden released a five-point agenda for Afghanistan

-

Washington D.C, 14 August 2021 (TDI): The White House issued a statement given by President Joe Biden on Afghanistan. Biden says that after a long deliberation with his diplomatic, defense, and intelligence officials, he has taken some important decisions to protect the US interests in Afghanistan.

First, Joe Biden has authorized the deployment of about five thousand US troops in Afghanistan to ensure an organized evacuation of the US military and those Afghan people who assisted them. Second, he has commanded the US armed forces to retain a stable foothold in Afghanistan for dealing with any future terrorist attack. Third, he has asked President Ghani and other Afghan leaders to seek a political settlement to avoid further violence. Fourth, Biden has notified the Taliban leadership that the US will vehemently retaliate if they put the US mission and personnel at risk in Afghanistan. Lastly, he has authorized Ambassador Tracey Jacobson in charge of dealing with the transportation and facilitation of Afghan refugees and immigration applicants.

President Biden asserted that the US has put every effort into Afghanistan in the form of aid and assistance. The presence of the US forces in Afghanistan would not bring any success unless the Afghan army takes control of their country. When he came into office, he said, he had to decide either he would follow the Afghan deal or send more troops to Afghanistan to prolong the war, and he opted for the first option. “I would not, and will not, pass this war onto a fifth (president)”, he concluded.
