Tehran, 6 November 2021 (TDI): Iran on Saturday asked the United States and Europe to choose a “realistic” approach to negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The head of Iranian diplomacy made important remarks during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Negotiations on the JCPOA have been stalled since June to reactivate the landmark 2015 agreement. In that sense, the agreement limits Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for easing the economic sanctions imposed on the country.
The specific date of the negotiations on the JCPOA has been under discussion for some months. Therefore, the diplomats involved have made different statements in this regard. For his part, Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran will fulfill all its obligations if the United States does the same. Commonly known, the United States reintroduced sanctions against Iran in 2018 after abandoning the agreement.
Consequently, the European Union, as a mediator in negotiations between Washington and Tehran, announced on Wednesday the date of resumption of the talks. Hence, the Members of the agreement (Iran, Germany, China, France, the United Kingdom, and Russia) will meet under the presidency of the European negotiator Enrique Mora on 29 November in Vienna.
Participants will continue the discussions on the prospect of a possible return of the United States to the deal. As well, how to ensure commitment by all sides.
