Tokyo, 10 September 2021 (TDI): Motegi Toshimitsu, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs and First Secretary of State of the United Kingdom held a telephonic conversation on September 9. The two Ministers discussed the Japan-UK security and defense situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in the security and defense towards the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
Secondly, the two sides shared their views regarding the situation in Afghanistan. As a response, the two sides agreed to maintain close coordination to enable the safe passage of people who wish to depart from the country, as well as to ensure an inclusive political process.
Thirdly, following this year’s UK Presidency on COP26, the two ministers exchanged views on climate change. Both affirmed to coordinate on the initiative.
