E. Mr. Taneti Maamau, on June 29.  During the meeting, President Suga reiterated the importance of Kiribati and other Pacific Island countries as partners to Japan. He expressed his desire to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Japan and Kiribati and stated that he wishes to keep working towards a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ with President Maamau.

He also agreed to extend Japan’s assistance to Kiribati in terms of measures against COVID-19 to enhance its social infrastructure. In response, President Maamau communicated his gratitude for Japan’s extensive support.
