Japan-Canada Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

Tokyo, 13 August 2021 (TDI):  Minister for Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu held a telephone talk with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Marc Garneau. The two Ministers discussed the case of Michael Spavor, a detainee in China, as they paid close attention to the concern. The Government of Japan extends its support to Garneau reaffirming the importance of freedom, respect for fundamental human rights, and the rule of law.

In addition, Motegi expressed his appreciation to Canada for its support in the recent Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Likewise, Garneau congratulated Japan for the success of the Olympic Games. In terms of the Paralympic Games, Garneau also showed his support for it while Japan is committed to a safe and secure Paralympic Games.
