Jaishankar Thanks Pakistani PM, Counterpart for Hospitality

-

Islamabad (TDI): Indian Minister for External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has surprisingly expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar as well as the Government of Pakistan for the hospitality during his stay in the country.

He appreciated the hospitality accorded to him during his participation in CHG-SCO meeting in Islamabad.

The Indian minister, on his X handle posted “Departing from Islamabad. Thank PM (@CMShehbaz), DPM & FM (@MIshaqDar50) and the Government of Pakistan for the hospitality and courtesies.”

He tweeted as his flight took off from a Pakistani airport, a gesture that was taken as a goodwill sign.

Jaishankar among over a dozen leaders of the member-states of Council of Heads of Government of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (CHG-SCO) participated in the two-day, 23rd CHG-SCO summit in Islamabad.

Yet, he grabbed the national and international media attention as ties between the two arch-rival South Asian neighbors, armed with nuclear arsenals, are at the lowest ebb for the last couple of years over India’s move to change special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the constitution.

Generally ties between the two countries had been restraining for long over the mentioned dispute.

As per UN resolution the mentioned region is a disputed area and none of the countries can alter its status until resolved in accordance with the mechanism the United Nations.

Jaishankar’s visit to Pakistan was the high-level trip by any Indian minister to Pakistan in 10 years.

Last visit was undertaken by Shushma Swaraj as the Indian external minister, who during 2015, had participated in a conference on Afghanistan, in Islamabad.

India once skipped an international conference just because its meeting was scheduled in Pakistan.

It was perceived odd in India as well when Jaishankar’s visit to Pakistan for SCO was announced.

Like Pakistani Media, news in India was also focused on Jaishankar in Pakistan.
