Islamabad (TDI): The federal capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, has surpassed major global cities in terms of safety, including New York, London, Moscow, Oslo, Sydney, Toronto, and Barcelona.
According to the World Safety Index 2025 published by Numbeo, Islamabad ranks in 93rd position out of 380 cities, with a safety index of 67.9.
Other major cities of the world lag behind Islamabad, including London, which has a score of 45.8 and is ranked 270th, Paris, which has a score of 41.9 and is ranked 303rd, and Berlin, which has 55.3 and is placed at 187th.
According to the report, the capital of Russia, Moscow, has a score of 64.6 and sits at 118th position, while Lahore, has an index of 63.1, and it stands at 130th.
In 2019, the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) of the United Nations restored Islamabad’s status as a “family station,” allowing UN personnel and state representatives to travel to Islamabad along with their families.

The Islamabad Police gave the credit of Islamabad’s high safety ranking to the management of Inspector General, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. During the tenure of the current Inspector General in 2024 and 2025, the police of Islamabad have recorded remarkable success and saw a noticeable decline in the crime rate.
The spokesperson of the Islamabad police stated that the decline in crime rate in 2025 was due to the introduction of effective policing strategies as well as the devoted performance of all officers and personnel. Compared to 2024, the crime rate in Islamabad saw a substantial decline of around 20%.
On the directives of Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, a vigorous crackdown campaign was launched against drug distributors, liquor sellers, and their facilitators.

In the ongoing year, the incidents of street robbery have already declined by 19%, the rate of vehicle and motorbike theft has decreased by 22%, and theft and burglary have declined by 12% and 74% respectively. There was also a significant decrease in murder cases by 17%.
Overall, 600 less crimes were reported in the ongoing year compared to 2024. Furthermore, the IGP Islamabad has started an effective initiative, under which a special awareness campaign titled ‘Nasha Ab Nahin’ was launched. The purpose of the campaign was to highlight the dangers of narcotics abuse.
The initiatives taken by the Islamabad police and the cooperation of the citizens of Islamabad have led to an improvement in the city’s ranking in the World Safety Index 2025.
