ISLAMABAD, September 10,2024 (TDI): On Tuesday, Iraq has signed an agreement with European aviation giant Airbus for purchasing 14 military helicopters, including a dozen H225M multi-role combat aircraft.
Defence Minister Thabet al-Abbassi and French ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, and a representative of Airbus Helicopters attended the signing ceremony for the purchase of helicopter in Baghdad.
Head of Airbus Helicopters for the Middle East Arnaud Montalvo said the accord was for 12 H225M helicopters and its delivery will be started in early 2025. The value of the deal was not revealed.
The French embassy in Baghdad told media that agreement was for 14 helicopters and 12 H225Ms.

Durel said the accord was the result of deliberation between French President Emmanuel Macron and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani. The will help Iraq in enhancing its capacities and will help Iraq to fortify its sovereignty, he added.
The helicopter [H225M, known as the “Caracal”] which will be provided to Iraq under the deal
can be used for search and rescue operations, transport and other operations.
