Iran’s Tough Reply to New Western Sanctions

TEHRAN, September 11, 2024 (TDI): Iran has vowed to retaliate against the new sanctions imposed by Britain, France, and Germany, which accuse Tehran of supplying short-range missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine.

Nasser Kanani, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, denounced the sanctions as part of a broader “hostile policy” and “economic terrorism” directed at Iran.

In response, Iran plans to take “appropriate and proportionate action” against these Western nations.

In reaction to the alleged missile transfers, the European countries have moved to cancel air service agreements with Iran and are contemplating sanctions against Iran Air.

They also intend to target individuals and entities associated with Iran’s ballistic missile program and its purported arms transfers to Russia.

Iran has firmly rejected these accusations, labeling the claims of supplying ballistic missiles to Russia as “completely baseless and false.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has backed the European position, asserting that Russia has indeed received ballistic missiles from Iran and may soon deploy them in Ukraine.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken accused Iran of supplying short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, which are expected to be used against Ukraine in the coming weeks.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Blinken revealed that the Fath-360 missiles, with a range of 75 miles (120 kilometers), have already been delivered to Russia.

He added that “dozens of Russian military personnel have trained in Iran to operate these missiles.”
